#FridayFling 30/10/26

This week’s #FridayFling snippet comes from my latest WIP. Arin and Nikita were once on opposite sides of a war. Then a bigger force attacked and now they’re teaming up to fight that instead. Here, they’re discussing the past and Arin’s actions. The prompt was “justify”.

“For what it’s worth, I was disgusted by that action.”

“Not so much that you refused to spy on us.” Her tone was tart.

“I could have joined the armed ranks,” he pointed out. “I chose to try and understand you instead, though my commanders never realised that.”

“Do you believe that justifies your actions?” There was no anger or sarcasm to Nikita’s tone, but rather genuine curiosity.

Arin considered the question. It did and it didn’t. “I could have retired, though what I’d have done instead, I’ve no idea. But I was enlisted. I believe… I hope that I did the best I could under the restraints I was under.”
